Georgia VINE through VINELink provides custody searches and notifications. It is not Berrien County Jail, GDC, a court, or a historical criminal-record archive. Its record depends on a participating agency feed. A reported release confirms a custody-status change, but the jail or corrections record remains the source for the official date and reason.
Georgia's statewide program supports online, phone, and mobile access, multilingual service, and continuous availability. The Georgia VINE number is 1-833-216-6670. Coverage for a particular Berrien booking should still be checked in the live search.
Search Berrien VINELink Records
Use a full name or offender ID and compare every available identifier. Same-name mistakes are possible. If the matching record is still in custody, register before the expected change.

Register for Berrien Release Notice
After selecting the correct record, choose the notification prompt, add a phone number or email, and complete confirmation. Phone registration may require a four-digit PIN. Entering that PIN after a call confirms receipt and stops repeat calls.
A notification can report release, transfer, or another custody change. It does not explain the court disposition, sentence, supervision term, or destination. Those details belong to the jail, GDC, Parole Board, DCS, or court.
VINE Is Not a Release Archive
Historical Berrien releases may be absent because display periods and agency feeds differ. Use the Berrien roster's prior-inmate option for county bookings and the Clerk of Superior Court for case outcomes. GDC covers state prisoners. BOP and ICE have separate federal systems.
The Georgia CJCC announcement describes VINE as a statewide automated notification layer. That role explains why an alert should trigger an official confirmation rather than replace one.
What a Georgia VINE Result Means
VINE reports the custody status supplied by the agency connected to the selected record. A status change can include release, transfer, or another movement. Those events are different. Release may mean the agency ended its custody, but transfer means a second authority took custody. Read the agency name and event wording before deciding which office should be contacted next.
A release notice is useful evidence that the feeding agency reported a change. It is not the release paperwork, court order, or complete custody history. For a Berrien County Jail event, the sheriff's OffenderIndex details may show Release Date and Previous Release Dates. The jail can confirm the actual exit and whether the person went to the community or another custodian. The court file explains the bond, dismissal, sentence, or order behind the event.
For state prison, use the GDC offender search. GDC records may include state identifiers, conviction and sentence information, a photograph when available, and release-related fields. If parole applies, the State Board of Pardons and Paroles supplies the decision, while DCS supplies field-supervision routing. VINELink does not replace any of those records.
Match the Berrien VINE Person
A name can return more than one custody record. Compare the full name, offender ID, agency, age or birth information when shown, and any other identifier supplied by the interface. Do not select a record because the name alone resembles the person sought. An older record, another Georgia county, or a separate custody episode can create a false match.
Start with an offender ID when it is known. A county inmate ID and a GDC ID are not the same number, so identify which agency issued it. When searching by name, try the legal spelling and review agency information carefully. If the record does not match Berrien County Jail, determine whether the person entered state custody or was held elsewhere.
No result is not proof of release. The agency may not feed that record, the display may have changed, the spelling may differ, or an older event may no longer be available. Return to the source system. For a local event, use the booking-date tab in Berrien OffenderIndex and select Include Previous Inmates In Search. For a felony prison case, use GDC. For a case outcome, contact the court clerk.
Set Up Georgia VINE Alerts
Notification registration works best while the correct person is still shown in custody. After matching the record, select the notification control, often labeled Notify Me or similar wording. Add the available phone or email channel and complete the confirmation steps shown by the service. A phone registration may ask for a four-digit personal identification number.

- Enter a phone number, email address, or both when offered.
- Create or confirm the four-digit PIN for phone notices.
- Complete registration and keep the confirmation details.
- When VINE calls, enter the PIN to acknowledge the message and stop repeated calls.
Contact information can change. Review a registration if a phone number or email account is replaced. A notification system also depends on agency reporting and delivery networks. It should not be the only route used when a time-sensitive custody answer is needed. The jail, GDC, or other custodian can confirm its own current record.
Berrien Release and Transfer Checks
When VINE reports release, call the agency named in the record if the destination is unclear. Berrien County Jail can release someone after bond, a court order, time served, or another case outcome. It can also transfer someone to GDC, another county, federal custody, a hospital, or immigration custody. A roster disappearance or VINE change needs that destination check.
Berrien's HB 1105 reports show that local jail procedure can include Law Enforcement Support Center inquiries and DHS detainers. The published totals do not identify individuals. They explain why a county custody exit can lead to ICE rather than the community. If the jail confirms an immigration transfer, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. If it confirms a federal prison transfer, use BOP.
Georgia VINE is not the source for a court disposition. Magistrate Court handles first appearances and bond decisions, while Superior Court handles felony cases. The Berrien Clerk of Superior Court maintains criminal court records. A court order may authorize release, and the jail record supplies the custody date. Keep both sources in the timeline.
Official Berrien Release Proof

Useful county items include the booking sheet, release date and reason, bond or release paperwork, and transfer record. Ask the clerk for a bond order, disposition, sentence, probation order, revocation order, or certified court copy. For state-prison records, use the GDC open-records portal. Georgia agencies generally provide an initial response within three business days, though production time, lawful costs, redaction, and exemptions can apply.
VINELink supplies an alert, not a certified release record. Save the notice date and agency name, then reconcile it with the originating office. Georgia VINE Coverage Limits
The Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council described the statewide VINE implementation as supporting real-time notifications, online, phone, and mobile access, multilingual service, and availability at all hours. Statewide availability does not guarantee that every old Berrien booking appears forever. Coverage still depends on participating-agency data and the live record displayed for the person.
VINE is strongest for watching a known current custody record and receiving a later status notice. It is weaker for reconstructing a release that happened long ago. OffenderIndex prior-inmate history, sheriff records, GDC, and court files are the better historical routes. Do not use VINE as a full criminal-history database or as proof of guilt. A custody record reports agency status. Charges can be dismissed, changed, or resolved in court, and a release does not state the final disposition. Use the official court record for that legal result.
